I think I’m having a bit of an emotionally fragile day because I broke down crying reading Neil Gaiman’s blogs about his cat, Zoe. But I’m actually not having a particularly emotionally fragile day and I just really, really love my own cat so very much, who sounds an awful lot like Zoe. Gus also has that tendency to follow you around the house and crawl into your lap. Recently, he’s been sleeping between Jason and I in bed, and sometimes when Jason rolls over on him he just makes a tiny mew, and scoots out of the way, closer to me. He is very loud. He talks a lot, and has a whole range of meows. My favourite is the one that goes “mrrrrrp!”
Gus is nowhere near dying,of course, despite having come pretty close to it before he was Our Cat. He’s somewhere between 6-8 years old and only has one and a half lung operational, and is allergic to cats and gets asthma attacks when he plays a bit too much – but he should still have many years with us.
Anyway, I love my cat, and I just wanted to talk about him.
That’s him, sleeping on my lap at night when we watch TV. It’s a pretty common setup.
