seahorse

Here’s a picture of a seahorse and a mermaid! I’m playing around in Photoshop more since I got a new Wacom(okay, it’s my 3rd one, but I’ve never really used it well…). It’s actually just the cheapo Bamboo one, but I actually think I’ll use a small one much more…

Oh, one more thing, I have some sculpted illustrations in the upcoming issue of the awesome quarterly publication, The Devastator!

Issue 3 is about CATS! And you probably like cats. I sculpted a bunch of cats for it.

You can preorder it here, and come to the early release party!

Here’s one of my cats on the contents page! You can get a preview of the book here. Some pretty amazing people, like Jeffrey Brown and Becky + Frank are in it!

Yes, I know, I’m supposed to be sculpting. I’ve just been a bit distracted making bad theatre jokes, y’know? I’m sorry, I’m a spazzy artist and I wish I had more time to make things.

But anyway, if you do like theatre jokes, I did end up deciding to just start a webcomic with bad jokes about Elizabethan dramaturgy, theatre design, and the ghosts of William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. No real update schedule; Marlowe is still my No. #1 project – but this is fun and silly and really low stress. It’s called The Macbeth Signal.

I did name Marlowe(the monster) after Marlowe(the playwright), but I honestly didn’t expect to be writing a comic about Marlowe the Playwright…so. Why do I do this to myself?

Marlowe has been updating preeeetty regularly on Wednesdays, though – so if you haven’t checked it out for a while, please do!

I’m covered in hives and I’m annoyed about it. And I wrote some comics about theatre jokes.

They feature the ghosts of Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare.

sketched this at APE. it’s sort of doofy and cheesy, but i liked it so i’ll have them in postcard form at DesignerCon(LBCC is too soon…BUT I did discover a hidden box of monsters and kittens postcards, so i’m not sold out after all!).

also, the Marlowe preview book is now buyable on Etsy!

fanartey sketchcards

Two things – first, I actually am drawing again. Second, I’m even drawing fan-art.

I drew and coloured and painted a bunch of sketchcards this weekend in anticipation for Anime Expo.

I keep on forgetting I don’t really like drawing people, but I really love drawing monsters.

I think these three are my favourites of the batch. From left to right – Totoro, PenPen from Evangelion and Mothra from Godzilla!. I’m pretty sure Mothra’s my favourite because of that derpy moth face.

There’s a picture of all of them over at my DeviantArt page!

By the way, I will be at table D28 as Sawdust Bear Makes Things at Anime Expo’s Artist Alley! Come visit me if you’ll be there!

I made myself a desktop wallpaper, because I was feeling a certain lack of monster on my desktop.

Maybe you want it too! It’s only 1024×768 for now, but let me know if you need a different resolution.

Hand Job: A Catalog of Type is the book sitting by my bathroom sink right now, and I’ve been reading it quite a bit lately(it’s the antibiotics).

Anyway, it got me inspired to draw these little cards. They’re sort of little conversation cards that you can hand out to people, or just place wherever you’d like something a bit life affirming.

earthworm wedding

March 5th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink

The past two weeks from me have been filled with somewhat grueling travel, and I think I’ve seen more snow in the past 14 days than I have in the past 14 years of my life.

I’m pretty much dying to get back to sculpting – I read an article on carnivorous plants in Nat Geo on the plane and now my mind is filled with pitcher plants and sundews and flytraps…

In the meantime, here’s a quick sketch of an earthworm wedding I drew while sitting on the tarmac at LAX for what felt like forever…
