designercon specimens

October 26th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

My sculpting has definitely been veering towards the slimy aquatic lately. I’m okay with that, but if you miss things like…feet…wait a while and I’m sure I’ll be back to those in due time.

Here’s a one of a kind piece that’s coming with me to Designercon in Pasadena on November 5th.

Well, they’re all one of a kind. Still allergic to liquid resin, yep yep.

I’ve also been answering questions and posting progress work on tumblr(sawdustbear.tumblr.com) and there is a small album of more Designercon previews here on Flickr.

A couple more works in progress. Here is the first part of the Specimen 7 story.

bugs!

October 10th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I’m back from Geek Girl Con, which was fantastic. It was such an amazing and welcoming treat to be around all of these intelligent, gorgeous, nerdy women. It pretty much had the best vibe out of any convention I’d ever been to. Hopefully, I’ll have a bit more time to write more about it soon.

I won’t get around to unpacking and panicking about unpacking anytime soon, but here’s some pictures of a couple monsters I painted while at my table.

Sorry, they’re totally hipsterinstagrammed out.

And here’s a progress picture of them on my worktable.

back from APE

October 3rd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I’m back from APE! It was awesome, although sales could have been better. But I hung out with the awesomest people, so I can’t complain much. It was like a mini vacation, with a lot of standing.

I am grateful for everyone who stopped by my booth! Thank you! If you’re new, here’s some pictures from my webcomic Marlowe to hopefully convince you to go read it. It’s about a sort of pathetic, but very well meaning, little monster.

Next weekend, I’ll be in Seattle at Geek Girl Con!

Jermaine and Fishpig.

Hey, I’m visiting my parents this weekend! More importantly, they live in the Bay Area, and APE is also this weekend! You can find me at my parents house, but unless you’re my parents, it’ll be a lot easier to find me at table #501 at APE.

I haven’t really been posting sculptures on Etsy lately because I’ve been hoarding them for conventions, but here’s a couple new things I sculpted yesterday.

This one is Jermaine.

This one is Fishpig. I’m really good with names, as you can tell.

They’re both bigger than my usual specimens, about 3″ long. There are a couple pictures of them from different angles in my flickr set.

Meanwhile, there’s also more Marlowe to catch up on since I last posted about him…so if you don’t follow it regularly, well – we’re in a pretty depressing loose story arc-ish thing right now.

the dusty junk

September 12th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

So, we built this thing and now I’m really, really tired, but I’m very proud of this boat.

At some point, I’m going to have to find a good scale to work in…somewhere between 3″ monster figures and 25′ long wooden boat art cars. The Dusty Junk performed beautifully on her maiden voyage. There are a few more pictures under the cut and here, if you like.

monsters!

August 16th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I know, I’ve been slacking on posting pictures of monsters, but I did get around to taking pictures of some of them recently. Right now, I’m scrambling to meet the Marlowe printing deadline for APE and GeekGirlCon and working on my ridiculous mutant vehicle for Burning Man.

But – look, monsters!

Other things -Marlowe is still updating mostly every Wednesday, and I’m still accepting submissions to my anthology about Early Internet Fandoms(there is pay!).

albino narwhal

July 17th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I’m making all of the things!

But for now, here is an albino narwhal. I got these super rad albino raccoon eyes, and I’m so stoked about using them and want to use them ALL OF THE TIME now. Unfortunately, my hands and workspace have to be really clean to work with white Sculpey, and my workspace is really, really not clean(my hands are also often not very clean).

Anyway, there’s an albino narwhal. I’m hoping to get my Specimen 7 “book” done by September, so I’ve been spending most of my time on that…and my laundry list of ridiculous projects that are not sculpting related.

birdcage lady is birdcagey

July 6th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Me at the Labyrinth Ball. My outfit is out of my closet, with added birdcages(and fake birds). The one on my head came from my neighbour Edna, who was cleaning out her garage(I had to sand a lot of gross off it).

I’m a canary merchant and Jason’s a …canary hunter.

seahorse

June 22nd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Here’s a picture of a seahorse and a mermaid! I’m playing around in Photoshop more since I got a new Wacom(okay, it’s my 3rd one, but I’ve never really used it well…). It’s actually just the cheapo Bamboo one, but I actually think I’ll use a small one much more…
