Here are some answers to various questions I’ve gotten regarding these little larms!

1. Yes, my cat is fantastic.

2. The larms are solid-cast resin. They were casted by Mana Studios from my original sculpt(which was magic sculpt).

3. I’ll be releasing a few colourways and customs of this little guy, in editions no larger than 5. They will all be hand painted and customized by me, which is the reason for the small edition size because I’d get pretty bored if I had to paint 20 of them the same! I’ll be releasing at least one edition before Comic-Con, and probably two or three at Comic-Con, and a few one-off customs.

4. They will all be in the $60-120 price range(the one off customs being at the higher range of that scale).

5. Sorry, the larm in the picture was a one-off! It was my mom’s mother’s day/birthday gift!

6. Yes, the name was an intentional pun. Here is a little bit more about them.

The Vanishing Bees at The Zzyzx Gallery of Natural Science(in the Hive Gallery), May 5th

I’ll be at the opening this Saturday for a little bit, but the Hive Gallery is pretty claustrophobic and I’m not sure how long I’ll last in there. I’ve got four mixed media sculpture/watercolour pieces in this one of beees. There’s another opening during DTLA Artwalk!

The Supahcute Dream Team Show at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland, Saturday, May 12th.

I am SO EXCITED about this show! Alas, I won’t be at the opening because it’s my dad’s 60th birthday, and also the prep day for my wedding. It’s a pretty good excuse, at least, but I can only use it once. My Giant Rockbeast and a Hiveblob will be here, as well as three small watercolour paintings.

I absolutely have plans to spend more than 48 hours in Portland next time. It’s lovely, the air is clean and the people are the goddamn nicest people.

I think the highlight of my convention was talking to the lovely librarians of the Multnomah County Library. They are remarkable, passionate people and I can see why Portlanders adore, defend and support their library so much. They picked up a few copies of all of the books I had, so I’ll definitely let you know when they are in the system and you can borrow them(from pretty much anywhere domestic too, via interlibrary loan).

My love of reading was largely cemented by librarians, including the one in my small hometown who suggested I borrow a copy of Jane Eyre at age 7 because I was reading Enid Blyton series about girls at boarding schools(I’m quite sure it was an abridged version). It was the first “grown up story” I ever read and I think that was when I truly fell in love with books.

Anyway, Portlanders, I haven’t been to your library, but your librarians that I’ve met are fantastic people and you are so damn lucky to have a library that enthusiastically supports independent comics and zines the way they do. Coincidentally, if you ARE a Portlander, there’s a ballot measure that you can vote on that will help our your awesome library, and Erika can tell you about it.

Anyway, I’ll write a longer post soon to call some awesome people out for being awesome, but I have a buttload of deadlines to meet this week, so here’s a picture of me at my table. (picture is by Joshin Yamada, originally published on flickr.) There’s another picture in there where I’m NOT making a face, but I think I like this one better. It’s more consistent with how I usually look.

The books I’ll have with me are: Marlowe the Monster, Marie and Jeanne #1, I Was a Teenage Gargoyle, and The Macbeth Signal. I’ll also have postcards and postcard prints, including these new postcard prints.

I do try to have con-only merch, and recently it’s been these woodblock paintings of monsters(paintings on wood blocks, I mean…not woodblock paintings)! They’ll be $20, are one of a kind, and are ready to hang and ONLY available at conventions.

Here are a couple of my works in progress:

Adolescent Hiveblob, first coat of paint. This dude has my first handmade glass eyes(as in, I melted them myself), which…actually look exactly like eyes you can purchase, so I didn’t actually need to make them myself…but I did. So there.

Giant rockbeast has giant stone bling. Yep, still first coat of paint. He’s sort of blotchy right now.

And finally, some bees. They are sad bees, because their homes are broken.

Fiji Mermaids are done!

They’re going to a show called Creatures From the Deep at 225 Forest(it’s a Hurley store) in Laguna Beach, CA from May 3rd to June 4th. They’ll be $125(#15), $150(#13) and $175(#14) and er, no one really has any idea who I am, so I’m sure they’ll be up in my store once the show is over!
