Drug Uses
Dapsone is used for curing leprosy. It may be used in combination with other medications. It is also used to cure dermatitis herpetiformis (extremely itchy groups of skin lesions, ordinaryly occurring on the elbows, knees, and scalp). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your physician.
How Taken
Use Dapsone as prescribed by your physician. Use Dapsone on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, you may take it with meal to reduce stomach irritation. If you also take didanosine, do not take it within 2 hours before or after using Dapsone. To clear up your infection completely, take Dapsone for the full course of curing. Keep using it even if you feel better in a few days. This medicine works best if it is taken at the same time each day.
Additional Information
Dapsone may cause blurred vision. Use Dapsone with caution. Don't drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you respond to this medication. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, call your physician. This drug should be used only by the patient for whom it has been recommended. Do not take less or more or take it more often than ordered by your physician.
