Drug Uses
Synthroid is used for treatment of low thyroid activity and treating or suppressing different types of goiters. It is also can be used with surgery and other medicines for dealing with certain types of thyroid cancer.
How Taken
Use Synthroid as determined by your doctor. Use Synthroid on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or two to three hours after a meal. It is advised that you use your dosage 1 hour before breakfast unless otherwise pre-scripted by your physician. Use Synthroid with a full glass of clear water. This medicine works best if it is taken at the same time daily. It may take four-six weeks before you notice an improvement in your symptoms. This drug will usually have to be taken for life, except in the cases of impermanent low thyroid activity associated with thyroid inflammation and in patients who are taking Synthroid on a trial basis. For children or patients who cannot swallow whole tablets- Crush the pill and blend in one or two teaspoons of clear water, and give using a spoon or dropper as soon as possible after preparation. Don't store the mixture for later. Don't mix crushed tablets in soybean infant formula.
